Winter Storage and Charging for Golf Cart Lithium Batteries

Winter storage is a planned operating condition, not simply a period when the golf cart is unused. Battery chemistry, standby loads, charger behavior and storage temperature all affect the preparation needed for a particular vehicle.
Start with the battery and vehicle instructions
Record the battery model, cart model and approved charger before choosing a storage routine. Use their instructions to establish the storage charge level, permitted temperatures and whether any connections should remain active. A recommendation for one lithium battery should not automatically be applied to another.
Separate storage from charging
A battery may tolerate storage conditions that are unsuitable for charging. Check the approved charging environment before connecting the charger after a cold period. The presence of a BMS or heating feature does not replace the need to follow the documented operating limits.
Account for standby consumption
Displays, trackers, converters and other accessories may draw energy while the cart is parked. Follow the approved shutdown procedure and create a reminder to inspect battery status at the interval specified for the installation. Avoid leaving an unknown accessory load connected for an entire season.
Prepare for the next season
Before returning the cart to service, review displayed warnings, visible enclosure condition and charger compatibility. Arrange service for damaged cables or abnormal behavior rather than repeatedly resetting a fault. Keep a short storage and inspection record so changes can be discussed with the battery supplier.
