Start with the Wheelchair Manufacturer's Requirements
Identify the exact chair model and the battery configurations its manufacturer supports. Ask whether a proposed replacement affects the charging system, controls, mounting or service arrangements. The MHRA's assistive technology guidance stresses following manufacturer instructions and highlights compatibility problems with replacement parts.
Check Fit, Electrical Limits and Charging
Request battery dimensions, installed weight, mounting requirements and the connector specification. Confirm operating voltage, current capability and the approved charger. Include any communication or interlock requirements. A matching nominal voltage does not complete the compatibility assessment.
Compare Performance Under Defined Conditions
